Before The NART Spyder, Ferrari hadn't built a drop top version of their flagship Berlinetta since the 250 California. Luigi Chinetti spotted a gap in the market and convinced Ferrari to build him a batch of stunning 275 GTS/4's that could potentially be equipped for competition and raced in the GT classes. However, only one GTS/4's ever made it to the race track.
Having planned to sell at least 25, only ten were made, all in left-hand drive, making original examples very rare indeed.
08391 GT was delivered new to Maranello Concessionaires in June 1966 as a steel bodied, RHD "torque tube" 275 GTB equipped with 3 carburettors. The car was presented in Celeste Chiaro Metallic with Black leather and was the personnel vehicle of Colonel Ronnie Hoare. Before selling the car to its second owner in October 1966 the car covered 4,100 miles most probably most of these being covered by the Colonel himself.
During the 1970's whilst owned by Brian Classic 08391 undertook a transformation. Brian was lucky enough to have a friend who owned an original NART Spyder. Brian entrusted the car to ex Chevron mechanics who removed the main roof section and converted the car to NART spec ensuring all details were copied exactly and correctly including the complicated roof mechanism.
In the late 1980's the car was completely restored by Modena Engineering for the then owner Michael Sugden. At this time the car was also upgraded to six carb specification by Terry Hoyle. In 1991 the car was purchased by David Morrison and entrusted to Maranello for the restoration to be upgraded and partially re-carried out to "Concours Standard".
