The GTS version of the 246 Dino arrived at the Geneva Salon in March 1972. It featured a removable targa roof panel that could be stowed behind the seats, the chassis being reinforced with extra bracing along the sides and front of the engine frame. Visibly the GTS had no rear three-quarter windows, these being replaced by a bank of three vents carved out from each sail panel. GTS's were all built on the series III (or "M") platform. Production of both the GT and GTS came to an end in 1974. 1274 GTS's were built in just over two years, 235 of which were in right-hand drive.

The GTS is the final version of the 246 Dino and is often regarded as the most desirable variant of this iconic sportscar. However Dinos in general have long since been criticised for lack of power whilst the GTS also suffered from further criticism due the lack of adequate storage for the targa roof. When removed the roof neatly slots in behind the two sets however in turn this requires that both the passenger's and Driver's seats must be brought forward thus compromising legroom. Both GTs and GTS have also suffered badly from rust and corrosion in the past. This particular example represents somewhat of a panacea for those who wish to enjoy a Dino to its full potential. Whilst the original one-piece roof remains with the car a cleverly designed two piece roof is also included, this means that when removed the roof conveniently fits into the boot of the car thus providing both driver and passenger with more than adequate legroom. In addition the freshly rebuilt 2.4 litre V6 does not feel underpowered due to a more lightweight body built and painted by the specialists, Spraytec to exacting original specifications. More over this new body is far less likely to corrode solving the Dino's third Achilles heel. The only other "modern" improvement is the installation of a Becker Mexico radio adapted to include I-pod integration and Satellite Navigation in a period and discreet head unit. The car is presented in its original colour of Azzuro Metalizzato with highly desirable and period correct "Daytona" style seats. In total the car has covered just 38,000 miles, of which just 2,000 have been covered since the completion of the aforementioned Spraytec restoration. The full restoration cost just over £110,000 which speaks volumes in confirming the superior condition of this unique Dino. This remarkable Dino is offered exclusively by DK Engineering and is available to immediately by appointment in our Chorleywood showrooms.
