The association of Pininfarina with production Ferraris began with a batch of exclusive and beautiful Series I Cabriolet's and were Ferrari's open-topped version of the Tour de France Berlinetta. The cars incorporated the same Tipo 508 tubular steel ladder type chassis as the Tour de France and the Colombo-derived 60° V12 featured with the familiar 2953cc displacement producing an output of between 220 and 240bhp at 7000rpm.

Outstandingly beautiful, 250 GT Cabriolet's were more delicate than the later scaglietti bodied California Spyder's and combined many period details that make coachbuilt Ferrari's so desirable. Features were the creased front wings and gorgeous features, an egg crate grille (often being filled with auxillary driving lights), an elegant chrome-lipped engine scoop fed cool air to the motor and the rear wings incorporating a kick-up just behind the doors and top mounted all in one light units. Like at the front, the rear wings were also creased, these sloping gently to the elegant tail beneath where four chrome-tipped exhaust outlet pipes lay. The interior of the Series I Cabriolet's struck a perfect balance between luxury and performance; cabin appointments providing clients with a very comfortable experience with fine leather and carpeting mixing perfectly with Competizione components of the day. A wood-rimmed triple aluminium spoked Nardi steering wheel would normally be combined with a crackle black dash, a flip-up Pinin Farina ashtray and heavily cowled instrumentation all having been executed in the finest period style.

Launched at the Geneva Salon during March 1957, the 250 GT PF Cab S1 proved an immediate hit with wealthy clients who had long been requiring an open-topped GT car of real performance and just a little luxury. Finding owners with several notable figures of late fifties high society, these exclusive vehicles were suitably rare with just 36 being produced over two years even though the model was the first attempt at a standardised Cabriolet.

This example offered for sale by DK engineering was originally supplied in tropical black with red leather interior to John McGeary Esq. by Luigi Chinetti in 1958. Being one of the last produced this car featured a full-width bumper and the later, and superior, 508"D" chassis specification. In the mid 1960's McGeary traded the car for one of the fourteen 275 GTB NART spiders; it is thought that at the time it was traded in that the engine in the car was broken. This would explain why the engine fitted today is, although the correct type and of an internal number very close to this chassis number, it is not the one that was fitted when the car was supplied as a new car.

In turn the car was bought by John McNeff of Houston Texas. In the late 1980's the car was purchased by Mr.Domanskis of Newport Beach in California who commissioned a full no expense spared restoration by Vector Industries in Orange county California. After completion the car was shown at various concours events in and around California and was then sold back through European Auto restorations to David Livingston of Seattle Washington in 1988. Eventually the car made its journey to Europe where is has been part of two private collections for the last ten years during which time it has been subject of a full bare metal repaint, retrim and continual no expense spared servicing.

The car has been displayed at various events and was the feature front cover car of the UK Ferrari Owners club quarterly magazine following an appearance at the annual FOC concours. As such the car has laso been invited to the exclusive Salon Prive event this Summer to be held at Syon Park, the ideal event for the new owner to attend with their new purchase!

More recently the car has also been subjected to full Ferrari factory Classiche department scrutiny. The car has now been successfully awarded its full red book Classiche certification.

This represents a rare opportunity to acquire a "needs nothing" example of the most elegant and rarest production Ferrari cabriolet.
