The Fiat Dino was introduced at the Turin Motor Show in 1966 alongside the Dino Berlinetta GT (later to become known as the Ferrari Dino 246). Sharing the same two litre, four cam, V6 engine as the Ferrari Dino, they would both later benefit from the racing pedigree of the Ferrari 246 Grand Prix engine. When Ferrari decided to race in Formula 2, adopting the new V6 engine designed by Enzo Ferraris son Dino, they experienced a problem that they could not build enough cars to satisfy the homologation rules, thus striking a deal with Fiat and creating a joint Dino venture.

The Fiat Dino model was built as two models, the Bertone designed coupe, or the lustrous spider, designed by Pininfarina. The latter guise having become most sought after amongst collectors, with just 1,133 spyders built, and far fewer being left in existence today. Of the 1,133 Spyders constructed, only 425 were the desirable 2.4 litre version manufactured by Ferrari at Maranello. In the words of Sports Car Market: "The Spider is one of the prettiest designs to emerge from Pininfarina's studio in the 1960s.... and even accelerating in top gear from low revs, there's a seamless delivery of power".

This superb LHD example was constructed in August 1970 was delivered to its first private owner in Italy and was originally finished in the super desirable combination of Pinot Verde. Remaining in Italy for the next 8 years, it was later sold and exported to the united Kingdom by Joe Nash of Dino services, the first Dino specialist in the UK, registered as MUU 219L. Joe Nash remained the owner until 1983, using the car on a number of tours and also having it featured in a number of magazine articles. In 1984, it was purchased by Christian Mineeff, a hill climb racer and well known member of the UK branch of the Ferrari Owners Club. Mr Mineeff kept the car for almost a decade, caring for it fastidiously throughout his ownership.

Gordon Willie a vintage Bentley collector from Lancashire purchased the Dino in July 1993 and at that time it still retaining the registration MUU 219L. In December 1994, he commenced a major re-commission, overhauling the cars ignition system, carburation, complete braking system, suspension system as well as refreshing the cars wiring. Various detailing work was also completed to ensure the car looked equally as well as it performed. Simon Ingram later purchased the car in 1998, relocating the car to the South of France, however the Dino was kept on UK registration plates. In July, 2000, Superformance carried out a lead free conversion whilst completing a full head rebuild. In 2006 Tim Stead purchased the car from Ingram and continued the cars use in France.

Superformance carried out a full and comprehensive engine rebuild during 2010 at a cost of £7,250. During this time the block was bored with high compression pistons fitted (10.5 to 1), crankshaft removed and reground, new con rods fitted with all components cleaned and balanced. Due to its prior work in 2000, the head was inspected and found to be in good condition. During such work, a new clutch assembly and spigot shaft bearing were fitted as well as the carburettors being cleaned and rebuilt.

Since said rebuild, the car has covered a limited mileage of just 13,000 Km whilst receiving routine maintenance. Presented with full UK Registration, spare key, tools, tonneau cover and superb history file supporting its exceptional service history with a no expense spared approach. This superb Fiat Dino Spider is located in our showrooms just outside London and available to view immediately.
