Ginetta Cars was founded in 1958 by the four Walklett brothers (Doug, Trevor, Ivor and Bob) and was based in Essex. The Ginetta G10 is an exceptionally rare model and remarkably, only 3 units were ultimately produced. It is powered by the 289ci 4.7 litre V8 engine from a Ford Mustang and the idea was to enable to the car to compete in the United States Road Racing Series. In essence, the race car wasn't all that different from the road version, with the same Mustang V8, although slightly tweaked. The power was upped from 271bhp to 350bhp by adding four twin-choke downdraft carburettors, an upgraded manifold and camshafts and stronger con-rod bolts. The axle ratio was also lowered, which helped the acceleration and the whole car weighed a mere 900kg, so handling and agility were amongst the cars greatest strengths.

This example is the 1965 ex-works G10 competition coupe that was driven by works driver Chris Meek in period. The car was quick to make its competition debut and won its very first race at Brands Hatch in November of that year fending of competition from Lightweight E-Types and Cobras, racing continued with success in the 1970s whe n the car was seen in a darker red livery. In approximately 2010 the car was located after a long search by its current owner and sent to Gelscoe Motorsport Ltd where it was completely restored to its current specification. The chassis was repaired to its correct, original specification and the body restored and repainted into its original Red colour. A new Ford V8 289ci engine was fitted to a top-loader gearbox and the power is transmitted to an E-type differential unit.

In 2011, the car was tested at Silverstone by Andy Newell following its rebuild. Furthermore, it was once again driven by Chris Meek at Mallory Park in 2011, sparking memories of the 1965 Brands Hatch event. He commented on the sharpness of the car and praised its superb balance, grip and handling and was raced at Australia's Philip Island in 2012. Additionally, the car participated in several demonstration laps at the Australian Grand Prix that year and also raced at the Goodwood Revival in 2012 where the car completed a lap with TT front running pace of 1:26.8 - fastest lap of the race. The car started the Fordwater Trophy from Pole Position and soon developed a commanding lead over the rest of the field, unfortunately just a few laps from the end a simple mechanical failure caused the car to retire. At that year's Revival the Ginetta was quicker than every single Cobra - a remarkable achievement which bodes well for the future races! DK Engineering are delighted to be able to offer this incredibly rare motorcar for sale. Such is the rarity of these cars, it is unlikely another will be offered for sale in the near future. This English-American racer is sure to win the heart of any racing enthusiast and the provenance of the car makes it a truly unique example. The car is currently located in our showroom just outside London and is available for viewing, ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian. The car has an entry for the Graham Hill trophy at the 2016 Goodwood Members Meeting where it surely, in the right hands, will fight for the overall win.
