The Aston Martin DB4 Convertible was announced, with great excitement, at the London Motor Show in 1961 and was thus only available on the Series 4 and Series 5 versions. With the exception of the Zagato, the Aston Martin DB4 Convertible is the rarest Aston Martin of the David Brown era, with only 63 examples produced between the years of 1961 and 1963, (against 1,110 Saloons). This was less than the Aston Martin DB4 GT, making these cars rare, highly collectible and incredibly difficult to source. The twin-cam 6 cylinder 3.7 Litre engine, designed by Tadek Marek, produced 240bhp and was paired with a brand new David Brown four-speed all-synchromesh gearbox. In addition, disc brakes were fitted all round. Such was the DB4's performance that it was, in fact, the very first production car that could accelerate from 0-100mph and back to 0 again in less than 30 seconds. This blistering performance, coupled with the stunning looks makes the DB4 convertible a truly special car. The Series 5 was the last of the DB4s to be produced and was designed with a slightly longer wheelbase and the Saloon had a higher roofline than the earlier models, which provided more headroom and offered a far more comfortable driving experience. The chassis was suitably stiffened for the convertible version in order to compensate for the loss of the roof section.

This DB4 Convertible is one of the last "Series 5" examples and was supplied new by the Brooklands Agent in March 1963 to Mr Michael Lambert of Chorleywood - the car resided not more than one mile from DK Engineering! This RHD example was registered from new as 949 FLL (which has remained on the car to this day) and was specified with a Non-Standard overdrive. This stunning Aston was clearly enjoyed by its first owner, the records showing that he covered almost 15,000 miles by the end of 1965, in which period the file documents no less than ten visits to Aston Martin for maintenance. Remaining in the UK the car was later purchased in June 1986 for twelve and a half thousand pounds by Mr Blackwell of Lytham St Annes. The car has been inspected by Chris Johnson of the famous Aston Martin restorers "Post Vintage". The car was immediately then restored to the highest possible standard by "Post Vintage" and subsequently enjoyed by Mr Blackwell until May 1993 when with just over 5,000 miles covered since restoration the car was purchased by arguably the UK's leading Aston Martin collector. The car remained part of this collection for 17 years and was regularly used and fastidiously maintained by "Post Vintage". Participating in many prestigious shows and rallies, in 2010 the car was purchased by the current owner, whom the V5 states is only the cars fourth from new.

Maintained with no expense spared by Post Vintage since 1986 to the current day this splendid DB4 Convertible was repainted into California Sage in 2010 and it has also been subtly yet effectively upgraded with improved brakes and exhaust. The car is fresh from a major overhaul which ensures that the car is in superb order and in need of nothing. This spectacular show condition, "Matching Numbers" DB4 Convertible is a very special motorcar indeed, having been maintained fastidiously and with no expense spared by the same well regarded specialist for 30 years. Still bearing its original registration number, this is a unique opportunity to join the small club of collectors who have owned this prized Aston Martin.
