McLaren and Mercedes are two of the most successful names in Motorsport, the collaboration between the two teams gathered pace in 1995 as Mercedes became McLaren's F1 Engine supplier. The collaboration that followed in Formula One, would bear many great successes over almost two decades. Mercedes-Benz went on to acquire 40 percent of the McLaren Group, and at this time, the two companies produced their first road car together. Competition was fierce in 2003 with Ferrari launching the Enzo and Porsche the mid Engineered Carrera GT. However the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, with its Awe-Inspiring supercharged 5.5 litre Engine, put the emphasis back in the driving seat. Mclaren's input is obvious in the car's handling characteristics and most notably the braking, when launched the SLR's brakes were by far the most advanced available on any road car, internally ventilated carbon-fibre ceramic discs with 6-piston aluminium fixed-callipers.

The car's styling has more than stood the test of time, a beautifully executed hark back to the all-conquering "Silver Arrows" from Mercedes Dominant Pre-War period. The elongated body with its arrow like nose contrasts elegance with the aggression of those snarling side exit exhausts. The car's upward opening doors are of course a highlight and in the case of the roadster a huge amount of research was put into the design of the roof, the fabric folding roof retracts in 10 seconds and is made from a stronger woven fabric, not seen on any other car, the composition soft-top fabric changes its colour depending on how the light strikes it. This play of colours is achieved by interweaving two different yarns - black warp yarn is combined with either red, beige or anthracite coloured weft. With the roof down it was claimed that it would be possible for driver and passenger to maintain a normal conversation at 120 miles per hour! Vehicles were delivered all over the world but were especially popular in the USA, this means that resultantly non-US versions of which there are just 650 (roadsters and Coupes) are more desirable. All cars were Left Hand Drive.

This European Specification SLR Roadster offered for sale was first registered in August 2009 when delivered in Germany, this car is one of the very last European SLRs. The car remained in Germany until February 2015 when the car was brought into the UK and road registered here; in the UK the car has had just two owners. Since new the car has benefitted from regular, no expense spared maintenance which is all documented in the cars history file.

This magnificent black example has full black leather with contrasting white stitching, the roof is black with anthracite yarn. The interior features optional Carbon trim and the Red painted calipers sit behind the 19" Turbine wheels. All of the cars original books and manuals are with the car as is the spare key and original Certificate of Conformity. The car has recently benefitted from a major no expense spared service in 2016 which included new brake pads. This SLR has covered a total of 13,000 miles from new and is ready to be viewed at our Chorleywood showrooms.
