DK Engineering at the Hong Kong Gold Coast Motor Festival

Over the last weekend, DK Engineering’s Managing Director, James Cottingham, was invited as an honorary guest and paid visit to the Hong Kong Gold Coast Motor Festival – an international gathering of some of the revered and desirable automobiles in the region. Although the event had taken a sabbatical over the Covid years, it was back in force for its 30th anniversary edition.

Along with close friend of both James and DK - Max Girado of Girado & Co., two packed days of events were undertaken amongst a variety of cars and people, many of which have a longstanding relationship with DK Engineering.

A definite highlight of the event was the gathering of the ‘unicorn trio’ – consisting of McLaren F1, Porsche 911 GT1, and Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR, the presence of which we are fortunately familiar with at DK – With the GT1 being the very same example that was restored by us in 2021. The exhibition of the trio was hugely popular and a historical first for Hong Kong.

Despite the lack of an expansive road network when compared to the likes of other car-centric nations, it is clear to see that the car culture in Hong Kong is second to none and a great variety of cars were on display. These ranged from classic icons such as the Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder, to modern hypercars – including Pagani, McLaren & Aston Martin Valkyrie.

As well as the event, James also took the time to visit various collections in the area while he was in Hong Kong, and got to see no less than 15 previously supplied by DK classic and supercars!

The Gold Coast Motor Festival certainly succeeded in its aims “to celebrate the rich history, craftsmanship, power, and technological advancements of the automobile.”, and we are greatly looking forward to witnessing how the event could possibly be elevated from its already exceptionally high standards for next year’s edition.
