The 250 GT Lusso is widely regarded as one of the most elegant and timeless designs by Pininfarina of all time. Introduced in 1962 the 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso was Ferrari's latest intermediate model, a vehicle to bridge the gap between competition racers and luxuriously appointed 2+2 Coupe's. Just 351 examples were built between 1963 and late 64.

This car, chassis number 4519, was originally built in 1964 as a 250 GT Lusso. 4519 is believed to be one of only two cars currently fitted with a 330 4 Litre Engine, the other car was the personal property of Enzo Ferrari. The upgrade to this car was executed by marque specialist Terry Hoyle for himself in the 1990's. The 330 engine drastically changes the characteristics of the Lusso. The upgraded engine is one litre larger than the original tipo 168 unit and brings the power of the Lusso up to 300 Bhp which in turn enables the car to become a relaxed road Grand Tourer, easily able to pass slower traffic. The comparison almost makes the original unit in a standard car feel strained even at low speeds!

This engine and chassis pairing was also used in the 330 LMB, which had a similar 4 litre engine mated to a GTO derived chassis. The 330 LMB won it's class at Le Mans in 1963 and it was in this race the 330 LMB was timed at over 180mph and this is clear testament to the power of the larger unit. The 4 Litre Engine was fitted by Terry Hoyle immediately after he purchased the car from the U.S.A (via DK Engineering!) for his own use. This was part of the major restoration undertaken at his workshops that included a full engine rebuild, body strip down and repaint as well as work to all other areas of the car both cosmetically and mechanically. This restoration is well documented by both invoices and photographs taken at the time. Later, Terry Hoyle sold the car on to Paul Wignall who ensured the car was kept in the best of conditions by Terry Hoyle. Curiously Terry had also worked on this very car at Maranello Concessionaires when it was new in the 60's/70's.

During 2005 and 2006 the car again received a thorough overhaul at TDH Classics when the engine was stripped and rebuilt, as was the gearbox and aso at the time the rear axle received new bearings. As a result of the larger, more powerful and more refined engine this Lusso has become the perfect candidate for tours and rallies. Under the ownership of Mr Wignall the car was used extensively on such events and never let him down. The feature of at least five magazine features including from the likes of Auto Express, Car Classics, Auto Retro and Sports Car International, the car is perhaps best summed up by the title of the Car Classics article, "Improving on Perfection". More recently the car has been part of the collection of Jamiroquai front man, "Jay Kay", a gentleman notorious for being a Petrol Head!

4519 is currently UK registered and available to view immediately in our showrooms just outside London.
