Porsche introduced their range-topping GT2 at the Detroit Motor show in 2001. This car is essentially a widebodied GT3 with a tricked up turbo engine. The car is light, powerful and rear-wheel drive. Suspension comes directly from the GT3. The springs and dampers, anti-roll bars, ride-height and camber settings are all fully adjustable, allowing owners to optimise their set-up for a particular circuit. In line with the GT2's no-nonsense approach Porsche discarded traction control and stability management. Meanwhile, the engine was another evolution of the GT1-derived 3.6 as used in the GT3 and Turbo in 2001. By running high-flow turbo's at 2 bar and upping compression to 9.4:1, output rose from 420 to 462bhp at 5700rpm.

Several cosmetic upgrades include an extended wraparound chin spoiler, enlarged trio of ducts carved from the nose, a distinctive moustache at the leading edge of the front bonnet (improving airflow) and a fixed rear spoiler with uprights housing their own individual ducts. The GT2 weighs in at 1440kg, 100kg lighter than the 996 Turbo which, combined with its extra 42bhp, gives the lightweight model a higher power-to-weight ratio than the fabled 959 Sport of 1987. Top speed is claimed to be 196mph, 0-60 requiring just 4 seconds whilst 0-100 takes 8.5. One of the last truly analogue manual Supercars the 996 GT2 is highly favoured amongst Porsche collectors, in total just 963 "Mark 1" GT2s were completed, just 113 RHD cars were delivered to the UK, with a handful further supplied to other RHD markets.

This RHD example offered for sale by DK Engineering was originally supplied by the Porsche dealer in Christchurch, New Zealand. It is a 2002 model presented in black with black leather adjustable sports seats and Porsche crests. The cabin is equipped with a stereo (6CD & upgraded), electric windows, air conditioning and black carpets. Externally the car benefits from yellow calipers with carbon ceramic brakes (PCCB) - these weighing in at over 18kg less than the equivalent steel discs. The car was regularly serviced by the supplying Porsche dealer and had just 3 private owners in total. The car has just been treated in the UK to a major no expense spared service at one of the UK leading Porsche specialists, who remarked the car to be amongst the cleanest, original, best and well maintained examples he has seen in recent years. This spectacular GT2 has covered just 30,000 miles from new and is ready to be used and enjoyed.
