Produced between 2004 and 2006, the Ford GT is a mid-engine two-seater sports car that drew inspiration from Ford's GT40 race cars of the 1960s.

The GT was designed as a concept car in anticipation of the automaker's centennial year and as part of its drive to showcase its revival of, "heritage", names such as Mustang and Thunderbird. It should be noted that Carroll Shelby was brought in by Ford to help develop the Ford GT; this included performance testing of the prototype car.

Although the GT is similar in outward appearance to the original GT40, it is bigger, wider, and 3 inches taller than the original (which was 40 inches – hence the name GT40). Although the cars are visually related and have the same basic layout, there is no similarity between the modern GT and the 1960s GT40 structurally.

The first customers took delivery of cars in August 2004. The GT’s major assembly took place at Mayflower Vehicle Systems in Norwalk, Ohio. Approximately 550 were built in 2004, nearly 1,900 in 2005, and just over 1,600 in 2006. Optional equipment available included a McIntosh sound system, racing stripes, painted brake calipers, and forged alloy wheels adding an additional $13,500 to the RRP.

The mid-mounted 5.4 Litre Modular V8 engine is all-aluminium with a Lysholm twin screw-type supercharger. It features a forged rotating assembly housed in an aluminium block designed specifically for the GT program. A dry-sump oiling system is employed, allowing the engine to sit low in the car's frame. Resulting power output is 550 hp at 6500 rpm and it generates 500 ft-lb of torque at 3750 rpm. The motor is mated to a Ricardo six-speed manual transmission that features a helical limited-slip differential. Resulting performance figures are quoted as a 0–60 mph time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 212 mph!

A Ford GT represents a superbly engineered supercar with blistering characteristics and performance capabilities, built to pay homage to one of the most appreciated and iconic cars ever built. When considering alternative supercars available today and their respective values it must certainly be noted that a GT represents superb value for money.

Such were the low number of official UK cars, many others were imported new to UK at the time. This example was first registered in the UK, as new in 2006. Finding its current owner a year later in 2007, it has since been stored as part of a large and prominent collection.

Having covered just 9,700 miles from new, this example was refinished in Metallic Black from its delivery white by GT101. Menacing in its current all-black livery, with matching, black BBS lightweight alloy wheels, this car benefits from select upgrades to enhance the driving experience.

Fitted with a Roush supercharger pulley, the 2.0L Lysholm twin-screw supercharger now makes an additional 60bhp, bringing the total to just over 600bhp. This is paired with a fantastic sounding Tubi sports exhaust system, much more in keeping with the nature of the car. Alongside this, the current owner has upgraded the sound system to add iPod connectivity.

Available to view at our showrooms just outside London immediately; this example will come with a fresh service from marque specialists, GT101.
