The much sought-after Ferrari 246 Dino GT was named after Enzo Ferrari's son Alfredo, who died in 1956, aged just 24. Enzo Ferrari credits his son with the inspiration for a series of successful small and medium capacity V6 racing engines built by Ferrari from 1956, and in turn, the name was given to a new line of mid-engined production Ferrari V6 coupés, which first went on sale in 1969. The Dino 246GT has proved to be one of the most satisfying and successful automobiles built by Ferrari and paved the way for the emerging generation of mid-engined Ferraris. It is widely regarded as one of the best-handling and most gratifying automobiles of the early 70s, it is one of the most attractive, delicately balanced designs ever produced by the masters at Pininfarina. As a result, Dinos have enjoyed a well-deserved recent surge in popularity.

This Dino GTS was initially ordered new by Mr Cosgrave of R Pratt Limited for August ’73 delivery, however, the order was deferred and the car was built in November 1973 ahead of delivery by Maranello Concessionaires to Rupert Dean in January 1974.

Originally specified in an Extra-Range colour over Beige, this UK supplied RHD-example was originally specified with electric windows and the extremely rare and highly desirable wider, sand-cast Campagnolo alloy wheels and accompanying flared arches. This rare and incredibly sought-after example is one of just 12 original UK ‘Flares’ only Dino GTS’ to leave the factory. Additionally, this car received a nose bar, radio and door mirrors. This ordered specification remained firm and the car was delivered as per Mr Cosgrave’s requests despite its postponement.

A fantastic example, it was purchased by Mr Davis in 1992. Mr Paske purchased the car in March 2005. By this point, the car had been changed to red, although the beige trim remained. The removable roof panel had been repainted red too, and the wheels refinished in gold as per the period Le Mans racers.
After purchase, Paske commenced a comprehensive restoration, a task that would take two years to complete. Having left no stone unturned, the car was returned to bare metal going over each and every bolt. Mr Paske refinished the car in the period Grigio Ferro hue in which the car presents today.

This car was sold by J D Classics to its next owner in 2014. Further work was carried out at this stage to the tune of £48,500. With meticulous attention to detail, this GTS received was brought up to the standard it presents in today. Purchased by the current owner in December 2015, this example has remained in storage and used sparingly since covering just 500 miles.

Presenting superbly, this exceedingly rare UK Supplied RHD ‘Flares’ Dino GTS presents on the button, ready to be used and enjoyed. Accompanied by its extensive history file, a full restoration record, Classiche file, and book pack including the incredibly rare original numbered blue warranty card. It is available for viewings at our showroom just outside London immediately.
