The 599 GTB Fiorano was at its time, Ferraris two-seat flagship, the successor to the 575M Maranello which it replaced it in 2006. The 599 is of course a spiritual successor to the legendary 250 GT, 275 GTB and Daytona. With an Enzo-derived 5,999 cc V12 shoehorned into what was the latest generation all-alloy chassis, the 620 bhp 599 GTB was at the time Ferrari's most powerful V12 production car ever.
The 599 took its name from its engine displacement Gran Turismo Berlinetta nature, and the Fiorano Circuit test track used by Ferrari. Styled by Pininfarina under the direction of Ferrari's Frank Stephenson, the performance statistics of the 599 are claimed to be a top speed of more than 330 km/h (205 mph), 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.7 seconds, and 11.0 seconds to 200 km/h (124 mph).
During production, an upgrade package was released named HGTE, for 'Handling Gran Turismo Evoluzione'. This package consisted of stiffer front and rear suspension, a stiffer rear anti-roll bar, a faster gear change thanks to gearbox upgrades, carbon-ceramic brake discs, and an upgraded sports exhaust system. Owners did gave the option of ordering the HGTE package when configuring their car, or having it installed later by a Ferrari authorized dealer, although retrofitted cars did not benefit from the bespoke seat stitching treatment.
