In 2012, Pagani introduced an all-new supercar, the twin-turbocharged Huayra, and following its launch, Zonda production was ‘officially’ drawn to a close. Having debuted in 1999, the Zonda saw many guises throughout its life and has since been regarded amongst the greatest supercars to have ever been produced.
Born from an individual client’s special request to develop a car with a more extreme character, and refusing to take no for an answer, Pagani set about developing the naturally aspirated 7.3-litre AMG V12 as a road compliant version of the track-only Zonda R.
Power was raised to 760 PS, and the enhanced unit found itself mounted to an entirely bespoke – ‘new’ – Zonda: the 760 RS. Seemingly an amalgamation of the Zonda’s ‘greatest hits’ – the RS debuted with aggressive stylistic elements and dramatic aerodynamic features, seemingly borrowed from the illustrious back catalogue of previous Zonda variants.
The unveiling of the new car sparked serious interest amongst prospective clients, and a further three 760 coupes were completed and just one 760 Roadster. These incredibly bespoke and personal creations marked the uppermost tier of Zonda specification, above that of Cinque and Tricolore; having even attracted the likes of Formula One World Champion, Lewis Hamilton, who commissioned the beguiling purple Zonda 760 ‘LH’ in 2013.
Since then, the factory has seen an influx of existing Zonda chassis return to be upgraded subject to owners’ specific requests.
