As recently reported in Motorsport Magazine (February 2009), the MGB has always been a useful track tool. The monocoque as opposed to separate chassis body design was revolutionary in 1962 and is still only just being adopted by other manufacturers. Most importantly an MGB is one of the best and easiest ways into Historic motorsport being relatively low value, easy and cost effective to run but consistently competitive in their class. Many famous faces have used an MGB as their route into motorsport such as in recent times touring car driver Rob Huff and British GT driver Oliver Bryant to name but a few. A perfect car to learn race craft, car control and the art of extracting the maximum potential from what is a relatively under powered vehicle.

Andrew Longden purchased this MGB as new vehicle in April 1965. Andrews main intention was to use the car for sprints and Hill Climbs. However, the car was used for the occasional race also. Amongst the races competed came an excellent result at Brands Hatch in May 1967 where Andrew had managed to gain an entry for the international Illford films 500 race at Brands Hatch. His Co-drivers were Jeremy Delmar-Morgan and Mike Walton. The team finished a very credible 9th overall and fifth in class. Another notable result for the car in period was the Marque Sports car race, again at Brands, in May 1967 where Andrew dove the car to third overall.

In 1968 Andrew sold the car and again the car (having been returned to road spec) was sold to a string of unsuspecting owners until sold to an MG enthusiast in 2003. By chance when reading an MG book one day the owner suddenly realised his tired looking MGB on the drive was the very same car that finished 9th overall in the Illford Films 500 at Brands in 66 - what a stroke of luck!

In 2006 the car was purchased by the current owner and totally restored back to race spec and appendix K regulations. The car has been regularly welcomed at Equipe GTS races and has performed exceedingly well. The car has always been prepared to the highest standard, is accompanied by a wealth of spares and is now only offered for sale to fund the next project. This has to be the most affordable race ready MGB with period history to become available for sale for a long while and is certainly not an opportunity to be missed.
