The 911 2.2S has for some time been one of the most undervalued classic 911s, however the differential between some of the other Porsche models is now beginning to be addressed and we are pleased to offer for sale this fine example. Only 44 right-hand drive examples were delivered to the UK in 1971 out of a total of 78 cars, this makes this car one of a very rare breed. This example has led a life of regular usage and maintenance, and has, unlike so many examples, never been allowed to slip into a state of disrepair. Importantly in 1979 the car was purchased (with around 9,500 miles) by an Australian who exported the car to dry, sunny (and road-salt free) Brisbane. Since then the car has passed into the hands of no less than three Porsche Club Queensland presidents and has had a total of 7 Australian custodians from new.

This wonderful history is substantiated by a comprehensive history file dating back to 1978. The file suggests that the current odometer reading of 63,950 is correct (albeit that the speedo is on its 2nd time round and thus the total mileage is 163,950). The documentation which includes a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, old-style logbook and current MoT, outlines many years of regular care and maintenance and includes amongst many others; two invoices for engine rebuilds (in 1980 and 1994) and two gearbox rebuilds (mid-1980s and 1993). The car was also treated to remedial work to the body in 1986 and a major refurbishment in 2006 at a cost of around AU$31,000, which resulted in confirmation that the car has not had any major crash repairs and that the bodyshell was straight. On conclusion of the repairs, a complete 'glass out' re-spray in the original colour was carried out. Photographs of the rebuild are on file together with a detailed account of the restoration process written by the then owner, Dennis Brooks.

Used sparingly since this work the car remains in stunning and beautiful condition, and this example benefits from a very recent overhaul of the trim, suspension and a Fuchs wheel refurbishment. This is a highly original and unmolested matching numbers and very rare 1978 2.2S, presented in its original specification and accompanied by a wonderful history file, a fantastic opportunity not to be missed!
