As recently reported in Motorsport Magazine (February 2009), the MGB has always been a useful track tool. The monocoque as opposed to separate chassis body design was revolutionary in 1962 and is still only just being adopted by other manufacturers. Most importantly an MGB is one of the best and easiest ways into Historic motorsport being relatively low value, easy and cost effective to run but consistently competitive in their class. Many famous faces have used an MGB as their route into motorsport such as in recent times touring car driver Rob Huff and British GT driver Oliver Bryant to name but a few. A perfect car to learn race craft, car control and the art of extracting the maximum potential from what is a relatively under powered vehicle.
The car offered here was built by special order in 2007 for DK Engineering by MG Motorsport. A very early rust free "pull handle" shell was utilised and the car was built to full competitive FIA specification. MG Motorsport were given one main objective, build as light a car as possible - and that they did. 525 GOO weighs in at an outstanding (refer DK)Kgs with fluids, absolutely on the homologated weight limit. As all good racers know weight is the key to a competitive car. Out of all FIA MGB's in competitive motorsport today, very few weigh in at less than 860 Kgs with many being well over 890Kgs.
The car has been campaigned with success but sparingly by Jeremy Cottingham. Notable achievements include second overall in the Heritage 45 MGB race at Silverstone in 2007 only behind younger brother James in his ex works prepared MGB, "2GLL". The car has competed for approximately 15 hours since completion and is thus still fresh in many respects.
The engine fitted to the car is a DK built full race unit producing (refer DK)BHP on our rolling road (estimated at the flywheel). The unit contains the highest quality components including a steel crank and rods. The car is also equipped with a long range 120 Litre tank and the necessary wiring for night race lights - both key components for a competitive B competing in the legendary Spa 6 Hours event.
The car will be offered with a variety of spares for the car including 4 spare wheels making it totally race ready allowing the new owner to enjoy the car with immediate effect.
