This was the fifth example of the model delivered by BMW in April 1937, all the body parts are stamped with the number 6.

After World War II the car was owned by a US Air Force Officer based at Chaumont in France who returned to the USA in 1959 with the car. Between 1959 and 2006 the car only had a further two owners during which time the car was largely dismantled ready for a restoration sometime during the 1970's in Los Angeles but was never completed. The car was purchased in its amazing, original and complete state in 2006 by David Cottingham and brought back to Europe.
Following a painstaking 3 year restoration the car was presented to the public at Goodwood in 2009 for the first time in probably 50 years in its original 1937 delivery specification including this very rare shade of green with grey leather.

During the restoration, many interesting details were discovered, leading to the conclusion that the car has a great deal of early competition history. Competition details include unique oilways on the block indicating a supercharger had been fitted previously and twin leading shoe drum brakes with magnesium back plates (as fitted to works supprted cars only)
