The much sought-after Ferrari 246 Dino GT was named after Enzo Ferrari's son Alfredino, who died in 1956, aged 24 years. Enzo Ferrari credits his son with the inspiration for a series of successful small and medium capacity V6 racing engines built by Ferrari from 1956, and in turn the name was given to a new line of mid-engined production Ferrari V6 coupés, which first went on sale in 1969. The Dino 246GT has proved to be one of the most satisfying and successful automobiles built by Ferrari and paved the way for the emerging generation of mid-engined Ferraris. It is widely regarded as one of the best-handling and most gratifying automobiles of the early 70s, it is one of the most attractive, delicately balanced designs ever produced by the masters at Pininfarina. As a result Dinos have enjoyed a well-deserved recent surge in popularity.
This RHD "M Series" 246 GT was ordered via Maranello Concessionaires on the 19th October 1970, finished in the rare and most fitting shade of Blu Scuro over Beige VM seats with the added optional extra of electric windows. It was delivered to its first private owner in April 1971. Remarkably this example has remained within the UK for the entirety of its life having covered under 39,900 miles from new. Its most recent owner purchased the car in October 2007 in a neglected yet driveable condition as the basis for a most comprehensive restoration. Upon its purchase it was placed into storage until the owner was in a position to focus all efforts towards the restoration and ensuring it was to concours standards.
During its total nut and bolt restoration the body was sent to PF Autos to be stripped to bare metal before and at that time the expected and required metal work was carried before being re-painted in the stunning original shade of Blu Scuro. Whilst the body was off, the chassis was media blasted back to bare metal before it was carefully inspected for any defects before being repaired and repainted as per the original finish. All interior fibreglass panels were removed and refurbished before being painted and reinstalled into the freshly painted chassis. Marque experts, Chase Engines, were tasked with rebuilding the engine. It was carefully disassembled and inspected for wear before being refurbished and reassembled. During this time all mechanical and auxiliary components were restored to as new condition before being reinstalled into the Dino. Inside the seats were finished in a Beige Hide with Nero Daytona inserts and carpets finished in Blu.
Today this exceptional Dino has covered under 39,000 Miles from new and is offered for sale having barely turned a wheel since its most fastidious restoration that was completed in January 2018. Included in the superb history file are copies of the original order forms, the hugely rare original warranty card and parts catalogue, and a full breakdown of every detail of work that has gone into the restoration as well as a comprehensive photographic record of the restoration.
