The 328 GTS model, together with the fixed roof 328 GTB, were the final developments of the normally aspirated transverse V8 engine 2-seat series. The 328 figures in the model title referred to the total cubic capacity of the engine, 3.2 litres, and 8 for the number of cylinders. The new model was introduced at the 1985 Frankfurt Salon alongside the Mondial 3.2 series.
Essentially the new model was a revised and updated version of the 308, albeit with various changes to the 3-litre engine. Stylistically the 328 model stayed very true to its predecessor's iconic 70's silhouette. The most notable change being a small roof spoiler just aft of the driver. Subtle changes were also made to soften the wedge profile such as moulded bumpers and a more petite front grill. In conjunction with the 328's exterior the car's interior benefitted from more supportive seats and an overall superior build quality throughout.
This stunning 328 GTS was supplied new via Modena Engineering of East Horsley to its first owner, Mr Clive Ballard on August 16th 1989. Supplied new as presented today, this 328 GTS is sports Rosso Corsa FER 300/9 over Crema 3997 interior. Additionally the interior features Rosso carpets and Nero hide dashboard. The car was specially optioned with ABS and a painted rear aerofoil.
Although delivered new to Mr Clive Ballard, it was in fact purchased by both Mr Ballard himself and friend Mr P Burley as a split entity. Having covered only the delivery mileage, it was decided that the car be properly de-commissioned and placed into storage for the foreseeable future. Remarkably it wasn’t until June 2009 that the car was taken out of storage and re-commissioned to prepare the car for use once again. During this time Mr Burley bought out his partner and became the sole owner, remaining so until circa 2015. Testament to its time warp condition, it was awarded Classiche certification shortly afterwards in July 2015.
Its current and only second owner from new acquired the car via dealer in April 2016. Since then it has been carefully stored and in September 2016 received a most comprehensive engine out service including cambelts by Furlonger before being placed back into storage.
Today having covered just 316 miles from this sale represents and unique opportunity to purchase one of the only remaining 328s to present in “as new” condition with mileage to reflect. This unrepeatable car is available to view immediately at our showrooms just outside London and will receive its scheduled service as part of its sale.
