Ferrari's 201 mph F40 is the definitive supercar and has a formidable reputation alongside the 250 GTO as possibly the best road Ferrari built to date. With the F40, Pininfarina produced an era-defining creation, one that even today is instantly recognisable by old and young enthusiasts alike. F40's were closely derived from the experimental GTO Evoluzione and the road-going 288 GTO (that the F40 replaced).
The design features a tubular steel chassis with bonded composite inserts, most notably around the sills and floor pan, The 2,936 cc motor produces approximately 500 bhp at 7,000 rpm with the help of two water-cooled IHI turbochargers running 1.1 bar of boost. At 1,202 kg, the F40 had, and still has, a phenomenal power-to-weight ratio. Shatteringly fast by any comparison (especially for 1988), the F40 can sprint from 0-60 mph in just 4.4 seconds and hit 201 mph flat out making it the first production car to surpass this mystical boundary
This example was supplied new by Auto Becker of Dusseldorf, Germany in 1992 as a Cat, non-adjust example. Its first keeper, Mr Hans Klaus of Kaiserslautern near Mannheim Germany. The first service was carried out by Ferrari of Lausanne. The car would see occasional use and was noted by historian Marcel Massini as attending the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix in August 1992. The car would move east with its second keeper in mid 1990s, finding residence in Hamburg.
In 1997, the F40 was purchased by Mr Gachoud of London, who imported the car and registered it to his London address. Upon its arrival in the UK, the F40 received a major service including cambelts with Modena Motorsport with the mileage noted at just 8,870km. The car would remain in his care for two years, visiting London dealership H.R. Owen on two further occasions before a major service with official Ferrari dealer Mortimer Houghton Turner Ltd in December of 1998.
This example was purchased Mr Rollason of Shropshire and kept for 9 months ahead of purchase by its current custodian in August 1999. Residing outside the UK, the current owner has used this example sparingly in his 26-year ownership, covering an average of just 300 km a year.
Placed into long term storage in 2008 and extracted in 2021, this example received a significant mechanical overhaul at the time including cambelts and fuel cells, a suspension and braking system overhaul as well as the replacement of all fuel supply pipes. These recommissioning works totalled £53,890 and the invoice for works is held on file.
Despite an extended period in storage, this example has thoroughly documented servicing history on file. Exclusively serviced by Bob Houghton since 1998, the service book features a wealth of stamps, and today the car is available to view at our showrooms outside London immediatel with just 19,750 km from new.
