Re-using a nickname given to the original 250 GT Berlinetta Competizione after its win of the Tour de France Automobile in 1956, the F12 Tour de France (TdF) is the latest limited edition front-engined, Ferrari V12 GT car. At its heart, the 6.3 litre V12 lifted from the F12 Berlinetta, uprated from an already hefty 730bhp to 769bhp with an 8900rpm rev limit. This affords the naturally aspirated F12TdF 123bhp per litre, through the use of a revised inlet manifold and mechanical rather than hydraulic tappets.
Shorter gear ratios enable a 2.9 second sprint to 60mph with 120mph just five seconds later. These changes make for a 1:21.00 lap of Fiorano, second only to the LaFerrari by 1.3 seconds. The F12 TdF is 110kg lighter than the F12, thanks to the prominent use of Alcantara and Carbon Fibre in the interior instead of Leather and Aluminium, and the extensive use of Carbon Fibre on the outside. Fitted for the first time on a Ferrari road car the TDF creates a ‘virtual short wheelbase’ system through the use of active rear-wheel steering; actuators on the toe link add up to a degree of angle greatly increasing stability. Visually the F12 TDF draws many cues from great Ferrari GT cars.
This example was supplied new by H.R. Owen Ferrari to its first keeper on 20th October 2016. Benefitting from a Tailor Made specification, understood to be 1 of just 6 UK examples.
Ferrari’s Tailor Made program offers clients an unparalleled ability to option each element of their car for the perfect fit; creating a one-of-a-kind example. The Tailor Made process offers near unlimited colours and materials and time spent with Ferrari’s in house design team to ensure a cohesive finish.
This example was specified in the historical extra-range colour of Grigio Ferro with contrasting historical livery in Rosso Bordeaux Tintoretto Metallic; a superbly matched dark metallic red to complement the swathes of Glossy Red-tinted exterior carbon fibre.
The inside sees liberal use of carbon fibre, this time complete with a satin-red tint. Each of the internal aluminium elements have been altered from standard red specification to satin Grigio Ferro metallic; this includes around the air vents and drive mode selections.
The seats are finished in Nero Alcantara with piping and inserts in extra-range Bordeaux Alcantara, contrasting stitching is also completed in Bordeaux. This example benefits from door sill signatures from two Formula 1 drivers; Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel.
