The Gallardo is to date Lamborghini's most successful car and this is the limited edition LP550-2 Valentino Balboni. Valentino Balboni is Lamborghini's recently retired test driver, a man who worked under Ferrucio Lamborghini himself in the 1960s. Just 250 units of this special stripped out Rear Wheel Drive and driver focussed Gallardo were made to honour Balboni's 41 year association with the firm. Since the legendary Diablo all of the Lamborghini models have utilised a 4 wheel drive system and so the Balboni with its Rear Wheel Drive only layout deserves its place amongst the Countach and Miura in Lamborghini Hall of Fame.
This particular Gallardo Balboni was supplied new via Lamborghini London on 19th November 2009. A flagship‑dealer delivery was fitting for an example configured in such a seldom‑seen specification, one that marks it out as rare even within the already limited production run of this rear‑wheel‑drive Gallardo, built specifically to celebrate the career of Lamborghini test driver Valentino Balboni.
At a time when many manufacturers were actively steering clients away from manual gearboxes in favour of semi‑automatic, paddle‑shift transmissions, very few Balbonis left the factory equipped with a traditional 6‑speed manual. The rarity of such cars becomes even more apparent when considering the production figures as they are understood today. Although 250 units were originally planned, only around 185 are believed to have been completed. Of those 185, 136 examples are known and documented. Within that group, just 11 are thought to be manual, and of those 11, only 3 were RHD, UK‑supplied cars.

This example has formed part of several discerning collections, including those of notable figures within the collector‑car industry. Its service history, maintained initially by supplying dealer Lamborghini London and subsequently by Birmingham, Manchester, and respected industry specialists, concludes most recently with a major service in 2025.
