Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta (2016)

Launched in 2013, the LaFerrari marks Ferrari’s first foray into the world of hybridised hypercars. Breaking the trend of the ‘F’ nomenclature, the car follows the roughly 10 year gap that separated the Enzo from the F50. Retaining the much-loved formula, Ferrari assisted their naturally-aspirated V-12 engine with 160 bhp and 200 lb-ft of torque from an electric motor. Combined the LaFerrari generates 950 bhp and 715 lb-ft of torque. Unlike its rivals systems that offer an electric-only mode, the electrical system has been designed to work at maximum output all of the time, as such creating a ‘torque-fill’ effect working in combination with the V-12.

Launched at the Paris Motorshow in 2016, the LaFerrari Aperta was launched alongside a series of bespoke liveries as the official car to mark Ferrari’s 70th anniversary. With just 200 customer examples produced, the Aperta is significantly rarer than the coupe. Ferrari built an initial run of 9 cars that were kept in house and the 210th example was auctioned to benefit Save The Children at the RM Sotheby’s auction to mark the 70th anniversary.

Whilst the carbon tub for the LaFerrari was already 27 percent stiffer than its Enzo predecessor, there were still revisions Ferrari were able to make to ensure there was no more twist when removing the roof. Radiators were repositioned, and aerodynamics were revised to re-route air flow around the cabin instead of over the top and some of the powertrain management systems were upgraded with lessons learned from the Coupe production.

Unlike the Coupe, the Aperta was offered in just 5 colours; Rosso Corsa, Giallo Tri-strato, Grigio Ferro, Bianco Italia and Nero Daytona.
