Carreras Colombia Cobra Races to Victory at Brands Hatch

Held on May 29-30, 2021, historic racing returned to Brands Hatch in the form of the Masters Historic Festival. Bringing together a vast assortment of cars, from Formula 1 cars of the 1970s and 1980, to the Masters Endurance Legends series featuring recent GT and Sport Prototypes from Le Mans, there was truly something for everyone in attendance, making this event a true aural and visual spectacle.

Contesting the Gentleman Driver’s race, DK Engineering’s own James Cottingham and Harvey Stanley were both behind the wheel of AC Cobras. James behind the wheel of the Carreras Colombia Cobra, and Harvey driving CSX2112 with the cars owner Richard Cook. Due to a very unfortunate qualifying neither car was able to start the session. James eventually got out and qualified in 13th position, making for a hard fought battle towards the front for the main event. And Richard and Harvey would be forced to start from the back of the grid with almost no running at all.

Starting from row 7 on the grid, James moved up to sixth by the end of the first lap. Fourth place followed in due course but the real excitement came from the last third of the ninety-minute race.

With twenty minutes to go, James and the Cobra successfully chased down Gary Pearson’s Cobra and then passed Roy Alderslade in the Daytona Coupe that he was sharing with Andrew Jordan. Catapulted into 2nd place, only Olly Brant in his Cobra was ahead, having started the race in pole position. With just ten minutes to go, Bryant entered the pit lane with gearbox or differential problems and Alderslade was also forced to retire shortly thereafter. Now well into the lead, James and the Carreras Colombia Cobra held the lead for the rest of the race, taking the chequered flag, and leading Pearson in second place by fourteen-seconds. Richard and Harvey finished in 12th position having made up 28 places throughout the 90 minutes of racing.

Also of note was Richard Cook’s race in the Riley & Scott Mk3C in the Masters Endurance Legends race. Sourced for him via DK Engineering, Cook placed 8th overall.

DK Engineering will return to the track for the 2021 Thruxton Historic for the weekend of June 12-13. On Saturday, James Cottingham and Harvey Stanley will compete in the Huffaker Jaguar E-Type in the Pre ’63 GT Cup and the Tojeiro-Jaguar in the RAC Woodcote Trophy & Stirling Moss Trophy for pre-61 sportscars. Sunday, Harvey will compete in the Jaguar Classic Challenge, sharing driving duties with William Paul in a Jaguar E-Type.
