DK Engineering is thrilled to announces that James Cottingham and co-driver Lewis Williamson will be contesting the 2022 Intelligent Money British GT Championship. Driving a Mercedes-AMG GT3 campaigned by 2 Seas Motorsport, they will compete in all races of the 2022 season. This follows James’ foray into British GT last year, where he raced in two rounds of the championship with Ram Racing alongside Sam De Haan.
“It is great to confirm a full programme of modern motorsport after competing across various disciplines of historic racing during the last 20 years,” James said. “At this stage, I feel I have progressed as far as I can with that, and I have always wanted to make the move, so it feels like the next natural step. It is an exciting new challenge as an entirely new discipline, taking on the full British GT season with 2 Seas Motorsport, and I am looking forward to racing with Lewis to keep the momentum up, pushing for race wins and the championship.”
James further commented: “At DK Engineering, we pride ourselves on our ability to provide the complete service, and in particular with regard to the broad range of vehicles we specialise in. Considering that we’ve been extremely busy with more modern classics in recent years, we have embarked upon this adventure in order to engage with a different client base and to make ourselves more visible to a new audience. Its part of our complete service philosophy that a providing consultancy in modern motorsport will only be made possible due to real experience in the field through endeavors like this.”
James’ co-driver, Lewis Williamson, is making his British GT debut this season but comes with a vast amount of modern motorsport experience. A former McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award winner, he also racked up significant experience of the previous-generation Mercedes-AMG GT3 during his time with Strakka Racing in 2018/19 – a period in which he was crowned Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Pro-Am champion, scored class podiums at Bathurst and Spa, and finished second overall at the Suzuka 10 Hours. Most recently, he raced with 2 Seas at the 2021 Gulf 12 Hours.
The pair recently had their first test day at Oulton Park on March 2nd in their Mercedes wearing its 2021 livery.
The new design will be revealed just before British GT’s opening round at the same circuit on Easter Bank Holiday Weekend.
