The Ferrari F50: The Car of Monterey Car Week - The Quail and DK's 'Discreet Drive'

As Monterey Car Week draws to a close, we reflect on what has been an unforgettable few days for the DK Engineering team. Two of Car Week's defining events took place over the weekend: The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

To fill the time between the two, DK Engineering coordinated, and duly led, Monterey Car Week's most talked-about convoy, which saw no fewer than twelve Ferrari F50s cruise along the Pacific coast, with four of the five factory colours represented. Now celebrating its 30th anniversary, the F50 has almost certainly been cemented as the car of Car Week, and the evidence is clear: with auction records broken in two consecutive years, and DK Engineering unveiling the ‘lost’ Grigio Argento car in 2025, enthusiasm for the model continues to rise steeply.

The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering was attended by sixteen Ferrari F50s, with four of the five colours once again accounted for; Grigio Argento, Rosso Corsa, Nero, and Giallo. The star of the show, however, and recipient of the Best in Show award, was the sole factory built F50 GT. Conceived with the intent to compete in the FIA GT Championship, Ferrari evolved the F50 platform into a fully-fledged competition car that aligned with GT1 regulations. Unfortunately, the project never materialised, and the F50 GT never turned a wheel in anger. An addiitonal two cars completed by Michelotto bought the grand total to just three examples, making them understandably rare sights in public.

Centre stage at both events was the Grigio Argento 101/C F50, the first of just four examples and unique with Giallo seat inserts. Having recently undergone extensive restorative work by DK Engineering, the car was unveiled earlier in the week and has received an overwhelming reception at various events and online. As world-leading F-car specialists, DK Engineering is always delighted to assist in the acquisition, sale, and maintenance of F50 examples.

On the lawns of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance; we are immensely proud to announce the 1951 Ferrari 340 America Touring Barchetta totally restored by DK Engineering received the Jules Heumann Most Elegant Open Car award. As such, a full report from the event will follow shortly.
