DK Engineering Remembers Alan Pointer of Bodylines

It is with great sadness that DK learned of Alan’s passing over the weekend. Alan was an enormously talented craftsman, and through his company, Bodylines, he worked closely with DK Engineering for many years in a joint venture to achieve world-leading restorations.

Alan founded Bodylines in 1988, drawing on the invaluable experience he had gained over 15 years with Rolls-Royce and Aston Martin Lagonda. His dedication to his craft, combined with a commitment to sharing his passion and knowledge with a team of newly qualified panel beaters, played a vital role in building the business into the highly respected name it is today.

Over the years, it has been a privilege to work alongside Alan and his team on a wide range of exceptional restoration projects. These included some Ferraris: 250 Lusso, 250 SWB, 250 TdF, 250 LM, 275 GTB, 340 America, alloy-bodied 250 SWB, and more recently, one of only two existing V12-powered Atalanta examples.

Alan’s skill, integrity, and quiet dedication to excellence earned him deep respect across the industry. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of working with him.

DK Engineering's Managing Director and Lead Acquisition Consultant, James Cottingham, remembers Alan: "I've been lucky enough to work with Alan on some extremely important restorations over the last 20 years, including the Walt Disney 250 Tour de France, 250 LM (6105), a prototype Jaguar D-type, a number of 250 short-wheelbases, 250 Lussos, 275 GTBs, and David's own Atalanta. He always impressed me with how he could work freehand and did not rely on bucks, jigs, and tooling as much as many other metal workshops. His team always produced the highest quality work, and we've been proud to work with them for a very long time. I'm very sad about the loss of Alan, and I'll really miss him. He was one of the greatest with his skillset, and he'll be irreplaceable in this industry. Our thoughts go to his family and team."

Our thoughts are with Alan’s family, friends, and the entire Bodylines team at this sad time.
