Goodwood 74th Members' Meeting

Since the resurrection of the Goodwood Members' Meeting in 2014, (with the 72nd MM) the event has quickly found its place in the highlights of the Global Historic Motor Racing Scene. For most the Member's Meeting is the long awaited curtain raiser for the year's action.

This year saw 12 races split over the weekend, (which unlike the Revival event is solely on Saturday and Sunday) firsts for the Member's Meeting were a motorbike race ,a High-speed demonstrations from a host of Porsche 917 and Ferrari 512M, 1970s F1 cars and legends of the Super Touring era as well as Max Chilton in a NASCAR .

The superb evening festivities once again underlined the popularity of the Members Meeting. In the house battles, Methuen and its captain Anthony Reid made it a historic hat-trick.

Saturday's Highlight was the all GT40 race, a one hour two-driver spectacle which ran into the evening. DK's James Cottingham partnered Andrew Smith in the ex Scuderia Bear GT40 ,although initially showing extremely strong pace ,a peculiar mechanical fault prevented the duo from finishing the race and so honours went to the well driven team of David Cuff and Steve Soper.

Sunday's highlights was the Graham Hill Trophy, a very hotly contested race for GT Cars. Similar to the RAC TT at the Revival the Event features the fastest E-Types, Cobra's and Bizzarrinis alongside other contemporary machinery. James Cottingham had qualified on Pole in the DK Shelby American Daytona Cobra Coupe with a blistering lap time, the fastest seen in Cobra for a long time. The race saw James make a terrific start, leaving 2nd placed Bradley Ellis far behind. A battle then ensued between the James in the DK car and his GT40 Co-Driver Andrew Smith in a near identical silver car. By the chequered flag the gap had eased out and the Apple Green painted car of James Cottingham took the fastest lap (a blistering 1:23.9!) as well as first place.

Elsewhere it was good to see very strong results for the ex DK Engineering Maserati 250F. (A car which was completely restored ,and then sold by DK back in 2014) and also by the Ginetta G10 which DK had sold just 2 months before Goodwood. We now look forward to a busy season of events both in the UK and Abroad.
