Offered for sale at auction during the Pebble Beach Car Week in 2019, this E-Type was purchased by DK Engineering’s Acquisition Consultants James Cottingham and Harvey Stanley and immediately shipped to the U.K and embarked on a full 12-month restoration with historic racing in mind.
Prior to DK's acquisition of the E-Type, it boasted an illustrious racing career in California with Joe Huffaker in SCCA A-production road racing. It was a familiar front runner at circuits in California including Cotati, Candlestick Park, and Laguna Seca and more than capable of holding its own against Cobras, Corvettes, and 250 Series Ferraris, including Bev Spencer's 250 GTO.
With the restoration-work and race prep completed by ADP under the supervision and management of DK Engineering in mid-2019, the E-Type made its debut in the Pre-63 GT race Thruxton Historic. Qualifying would prove a baptism of fire with Harvey having never driven the circuit and James having never driven the car, or been to Thruxton in a decade! That said the car showed good pace in its first competitive session, qualifying P2. While the race resulted in a DNF despite building a very respectable lead early on.
At the Goodwood Speedweek in 2020, James and Harvey took to the wheel again to compete in The Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy. Qualifying third, it competed in a hard fought battle against European Le Mans Series Champion, Alex Brundle and former World Touring Car Champion Rob Huff both in similar E-Types. When the chequered flag fell, it was the Huffaker E-Type that emerged victorious, just once second ahead of Rob Huff's Fixed Head Coupe, taking an emotional win on a hard fought race.
At the time of writing, the Huffaker E-Type has also enjoyed outings at Monza, and Silverstone, with many more planned for the 2021 season and beyond.
