2nd Overall at the 1966 Ilford Films 500 at Brands Hatch

A competition car when new, “2 GLL” etched its name into the history books when raced by Alex Poole and Roger Enever at the Ilford Films 500 race at Brands Hatch in May of 1966. Finishing third overall and first in class, the pair finished behind a Shelby 427 Cobra and a Ford GT40, but finished ahead of a truly amazing assortment of cars. This included a Ferrari 250 LM driven by Mike Salmon and David Hobbs, as well as a few E-Types, Morgans, Austin-Healeys, and four other MGBs. It completed 167 laps at an average of 73.38 mph and was racing as high as second place.

Acquired by David Cottingham and DK Engineering in 2005 from long term ownership, the car was immediately returned to the track and has been prepared and raced across the U.K. and Europe by the team at DK ever since. Notable performances include the Spa Six Hours in 2007, where it was driven by James Cottingham and Rowan Atkinson who finished thirteenth overall, the 45th anniversary MGB race in 2007 where James won the event overall, and the Goodwood Revival in 2019, where the car was driven to an impressive fourth place overall finish in the Fordwater trophy by Harvey Stanley.
