The 1st of Just 4 Grigio Argento Examples - Total Restoration by DK Engineering
DK Engineering are world leading Ferrari ‘F’ car specialists, having servicedand sold over 300 examples across 288 GTO, F40, and of course, the F50.
Works included:
- In depth inspection and compression tests were performed followed by asubsequent condition report. The car’s fuel cells, pumps and lines wereremoved. The doors, sills, rear- section and all suspension componentswere stripped.
- The rear of the car was completely stripped, and necessary componentswere restored. The rear silencers were refinished, door cards were sentto be retrimmed and meticulous painting works began with intent topreserve the bodywork’s carbon weave.
- Further to the initial strip down, the collection of accompanyingaccessories was completed.
- Externally, all glass was removed and reconditioned. Internally, theinterior was retrimmed using original Lorica. Reconditioning of heatshields and additional mechanical components included hubs, headers,and driveshafts.
- The engine was stripped to bare block; the big end and main bearingswere replaced along with gaskets and O-rings. The block itself was then repainted and the honed cylinders’ valve guides and seals were replaced. The five valves per cylinder (sixty in total) then had theirclearances reset. Electrically, the F50's wiring loom was tended to, and all the electrical plugs including the boots on the plugs themselves, werereplaced.
- All mounts, nuts and bolts were replated and the carbon fibreinlet manifold was re-lacquered.
- The car’s gearbox was completely stripped and inspected beforerestoration and reassembly with new gaskets and seals.
The restorative works carried out exceed those ever previouslyperformed by DK Engineering and totalled just shy of £500,000.Today the car presents superbly, totally restored to its unique factory specification.
