Launched in 1963, the Mercedes-Benz 600 was the pinnacle of engineering at its time. Synonymous with dictators, heads of state and celebrities alike, the 600 proved to be, of its time, the greatest car in the world. Preceded by the 300 'Adenauer', a car affectionately named after Konrad Adenauer, the first chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, the 600 was designed and built to revive the super-luxury class of limousine.

The 600 was offered in three variants; the 4-door SWB, the 4/6 door LWB Pullman and a 4-door Landaulet - offering a convertible roof for the rear passengers.

The 600 series was powered by a hand built M100 6.3 Litre V8. The engine itself was good for 300hp and 370lb/ft of torque; however with the cars windows, central locking, seat movement amongst others powered by hydraulics, 50hp was required to power the pump.

Testament to its engineering, the 600 was fitted with air suspension with variable ride control, all-around disc brakes, power-assisted steering, hydraulic central locking, and separate heating and ventilation systems for the front and rear compartments.

This Left Hand drive example is presented in the elegant Dolphin Blue over ivory leather with Macassar Ebony Wood dashboard and fittings. It features a 4-speed column mounted automatic gearbox, hydraulic seat adjustment, fridge in the centre console, sunroof and rear mounted telephone.

Delivered new in 1969 to Alexander Onassis aged just 21, son of shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis and care of Olympic Airways as per the service book in the history file.

An image of his father, Aristotle Onassis, in car accompanying his lover Maria Callas and perfume heiress Helene Rochas exists too. The 600 remained in the family for several years until 1973. The car was subsequently sold to Onassis's good friend Arnon Milchan. Milchan - a fellow billionaire and the owner of New Regency Films - produced over 130 films and is recognised as a true Hollywood producer legend. Arnon kept the car at his Paris residence.

This example was then purchased by Mercedes-Benz 600 connoisseur Frederic Branthomme and today we are pleased to this historic car in fantastic largely original condition.

This example will be serviced as part of the sale. UK registration is in process and the car is available to view immediately at our showrooms just outside London.
